WAGC2025 – Welcome

The first day started with a pair go tournament where competitors were paired with local players. The organisation was a bit chaotic; I was standing in the wrong place and did not get paired.

I took the opportunity to go for a walk. Vancouver is not designed for walking – everything is organised to be accessed by car. If you start to cross a main road when the light shows ‘walk’, the dreaded red hand will appear when you are half way across.

I managed to find a walk along the river and found my way back.

Then disaster struck – my multinational socket adapter does not work in Canada, and I only have an hour left on my laptop. Update: resolved. The adapter falls out of vertical sockets, but fits into the horizontal socket on my desk, even without the earth pin.

The opening ceremony was about half speeches, followed by entertainments.

The dancers held this position for five minutes while the organisers sorted the music out, then performed a Chinese dance.
